There are local projects worth visiting like the Riebeek Kasteel Community Garden Project, where locals have their own allotment vegetable gardens, the Steel Band Project run by David Wickham, and the Community Theatre.
Two weekend markets – the Riebeek Kasteel Village Market, and the Riebeek West Fresh Funky Market are welcome respites, and make time to hike up the Kasteelberg which give you some incredible views over the Swartland.

A few km away from Kasteel is Riebeek West. In the 19th century Jan Smuts and Daniel Malan were born in here, both later becoming prime ministers of the country.
Riebeek Kasteel is one of the oldest towns in South Africa, situated at 80 km north-east of Cape Town.
Riebeeksrivier is a beautiful farmstead located on the eastern side of the Majestic Kasteelberg mountains, overlooking the Swartland area all the way to Table Mountain. It is now the home of a number of vineyards, wheat and produce farms which give the area an utterly picturesque landscape.
10 km from the Riebeek Kasteel is the little town of Hermon. Of Hebrew origin, the name means 'elevated, 'exalted', the reference being to the biblical Mount Hermon (Deut. 3:8, 9). It is one of the towns that make up the Riebeek Valley.
