April saw the very first First Friday in Riebeek Kasteel. The inaugural event was a huge success. The collective effort of Riebeek Kasteel businesses and community spirit contributed to the overall enjoyment of the evening. Sean Clearly, who came up with the concept, said “The event far exceeded our expectations. The level of participation from the local business community was overwhelming, and we expect the initiative to go from strength to strength in the months to come.” The town was lit up by fairy lights, and each business offered patrons delicious food, a festival atmosphere and specially discounted products. The highlight of the event was the participation of The Olive Branch Project, a community initiative that actively involves all residents of the Riebeek Valley in collaborative performing and visual arts projects, with a view of to bringing to bridging divides, finding common ground and healing wounds. The initiative also seeks to promote legitimate and sustainable income streams for talented groups and individuals in the arts. Some of the acts were: Empire Boys, Lehain Mankopan, Lyle Carolus, Valley Characters, Valley Roses, and Tutu Girls. The Olive Branch Project will also perform at the Riebeek Valley Olive Festival on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 May 2019.
The next First Friday takes place on friday 3 May, from 17h00- 20h00, Riebeek Kasteel.
