5 Amazing things to get up to in the Riebeek Valley this festive season

Heading towards the Riebeek Valley over the holidays, and on the lookout for fun things to see, do and experience? Fantastic! We cannot wait to welcome you to our slice of paradise. Here are five great things to get up to in the Riebeek Valley this festive season.

PLEASE NOTE that festive season hours may apply at certain venues, so it is always recommended that you call ahead before making a mission, just to avoid disappointment.

  1. Do an olive oil tasting

Did you know that olive oil is technically a fruit juice? It totally is! Do yourself a favour and book an olive oil tasting at one of our amazing local producers, such as The Olive Boutique, or Het Vlock Casteel when you come for a visit. It’s a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the many exceptional properties of extra virgin olive oil.

  1. Go for a meandering walk through town

One of the best ways to discover the pretty little nooks and crannies of Riebeek Kasteel and Riebeek West is to put on a nice pair of walking shoes, slather on some sunscreen and go for a good, old-fashioned walkabout. This way you can pop in at art galleries like The Gallery, and shops like A la Maison and Crystal and Twine.

It’s also a great opportunity to shop for the makings of a picnic or tapas spread at your accommodation. We highly recommend popping in at The Wine Kollective to find a great Swartland wine, and visiting Panera Bakery & Bistro to pick up some freshly baked bread.

  1. Pick up some pretty last-minute festive gifts

If you haven’t quite gotten your festive gift shopping sorted, the good news is that the Riebeek Valley offers plenty of shopping opportunities for late bloomers. From beautiful indoor plants and gardening essentials at Riebeek Valley Garden Centre, to fanciful soaps and essential oils at Still Pure, there is something for everyone to enjoy when you take your time to explore and discover.

However, even after the festive season is over, there will still be plenty of opportunities to engage with our amazing vendors in the valley. Early in the new year, our first First Fridays event for the year will take place between 7 and 9 January, with a convivial Village Market on the square on the 8th. Come join in the fun!

TOP TIP: Come see our gorgeous 12-metre-tall Christmas tree on the town square in Riebeek Kasteel. The lights go on every evening at 20:00 and it’s quite the spectacle to behold.

  1. Have a bite & cool down

Swartland summer days can get quite hot, but the good news is that our clever restauranteurs cater for this eventuality as well. This is why you’ll find a cool little stream in which to dip your feet at Marras, a great sprinkler set-up (for kids of all ages) at Kringe Inni Bos at Kloovenburg, and a full-on splash fountain at The Barn.

  1. Take it easy!

It can be tempting to try and plan every second of your visit to the Riebeek Valley to a T, but we actually recommend taking things as they come. If there are certain restaurants and/or wineries you do definitely want to visit, make those bookings beforehand so you don’t have to worry about getting a nice table, but other than that – take it easy!

Put your feet up, let your hair down and drink in the singular tranquillity for which our region is so well-known.
